Melanie Hunter

Playwright & Screenwriter

All you need is love... and a dog... and writing.

Graduating from Northumbria University with a BA in Media Production in 2008, Melanie was awarded the inaugural prize for best feature screenplay. She had her first short film commissioned the following year while working as an in-house writer for a local film production company.

She graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama - London, with an MA in writing for the stage and broadcast media in 2011, and her first play, Life: Meaning Us, was produced in Camden later that year. Since then, Melanie’s work has been staged in a number of venues across London, and in the North-East. Her most recent work-in-progress, Sleeping Truths Lie, was staged at the Tristan Bates Theatre as part of The Camden Fringe 2014.

Writing isn't Mel's only passion, however. Self-confessed 'crazy dog lady', Melanie is pretty mad on our four-legged pals, and recently worked as a dog care assistant with Guide Dogs for the Blind in London, and continues her work with animals at the RSPCA animal centre in the North East.

She considers herself, "...lucky to earn a living from one passion, while still creating and exploring opportunities with the other."

Mel is currently developing a new film script (Stand Up), and a script for the stage (Blue’s For Boys).
